Bilingual Wedding Invitations

Bilingual (trilingual and so on…) weddings have the added difficulty of trying to make everyone understand what is going on. It is difficult to translate a live and spontaneous speech. But, the invitations is something you can control. Here are some ideas for bilingual wedding invitations:

1. Avoid too much text

Wedding invitations do not have a lot of text anyways, but bilingual ones might have. It is usually not a good idea to normal invitation and translate it to a second, third or more languages. It will turn out to have too much text.

2. Use icons and/or images

Use images and/or icons that everyone can understand. For example a clock with a specific time or a pin to show an address.

3. Establish a theme, color or general idea

I know, the invitations are not that important. They serve mainly to inform your guests about your wedding details. However, they are also the first impression everyone is getting about you wedding (if you didn’t send a save the date card). And their format defines the the rest of your wedding stationery (seating plan, place cards, menus, thank you cards, and so on…). You do not have to have a theme for this but you should choose a format that sticks to the rest of the paper based items.

4. Confirmation contacts

If you are having a wedding with more than one language I suppose you also have people coming from more than one country. Try to give a general way for communication as an e-mail. In case of giving cell phone numbers give a number from the 2 or 3 countries where most of the guests are coming from. Maybe is not that expensive to make an international call, but it is most of the times more convenient.

5. Consider more than one version

If you are a text person and do not want to use icons, consider to have more than one version (corresponding to the different languages) of your invitations.

I hope these tips helped you to create your perfect bilingual wedding invitations!
